Galaxy S8 is by far the greatest smartphone of 2017. And the new infinite display is a stunner. While there’s no limitations to what you can’t do with the galaxy S8, the battery may just be the only limitation. Minimal use may last you a day or two but since no matter how large the battery, the battery timing would never be perfect and if you use you smartphone for multiple purposes here are a few tips which can help improve the battery life and the battery timing. Just so you have the juice when you need it.

Switch off Mobile Data when not in use

Mobile data drains battery a lot more than you think, nearly twice as much as Wifi does so next time you’re using Mobile data, switch it off as soon as you’re done with surfing or whatever you were doing. Extensive use may shorten the battery time. Doing this will help restore the battery timing.

Turn off “Always on” display & choose lower brightness

The higher the brightness, the quicker the battery drains. This is because your phone is using extra energy to provide a brightened display. If you’re indoors, choose brightness level that is suitable for the eyes. Too much brightness would just lower the battery timing.

Another trick you can use to prolong battery timing is by turning off the “Always on” display. This is no huge science, if the screen is always on, it’s obviously consuming unnecessary battery. So instead of that. Turn it off and save the unnecessary battery usage. This would be helpful in the long run.

Turn on Power Saving mode

If you’re on low battery and the charger is nowhere nearby, don’t worry, you can always resort to the power saving mode. This allows you to use only the high priority apps. You can either select between different presets offered by power saving mode or customize to your needs. Either way, your phone will pull out the best time for the remaining battery.

Optimize your phone

Samsung has incorporated a maintenance app on the new Galaxy S8, frequently optimizing your device will close unwanted apps and clear cache as well as RAM allowing you a smoother running and an altogether better battery timing.

Don’t let your phone die

Constantly using your device on low battery or letting it die can wither the battery timing and may affect battery life in the long run. While this may not be an issue initially but if you plan on keeping your device for a longer period than the best advice would be to plug in charger as soon as your device hits low battery. This will help rejuvenate the battery timing for a healthy & smoother batter life in the long run.

In the previous Galaxy smartphones, taking a screenshot was pretty easy & basic, all you had to do was press the power button & the home button at the same time. Similarly on iPhone, this was much easier for users switching from iPhone to Samsung or Samsung to iPhone. While iPhone still has the same button combination for now, the technique for taking the screenshot is all changed in the Samsung Galaxy S8. This is because Samsung decided to opt for infinite display hence removing the home button & settling down for a virtual home button instead & displacing the fingerprint sensor too (which is now on the back).

However taking the screenshot on the Samsung is not that difficult, it’s actually pretty simple. If you recently bought the Samsung Galaxy S8 & are wondering how to take a screenshot don’t worry, we’ll guide you.

Taking screenshot using buttons

This is the most conventional method for taking a screenshot, with Samsung Galaxy S8 you can take one as following;

Make sure the content you want to screenshot is clearly visible & on screen.

Press the power button as well as the volume up/down button at the same time.

The screen will flash hence showing the screenshot has been taken which will saved in the gallery.

Taking screenshot using Swipe gesture

If you’re looking for a much easier way to take a screenshot, the “Palm gesture” is your solution. Now this method has been around in many of Samsung devices and is probably one of the coolest way to take a screenshot. Here’s how you can take a screenshot using the Palm swipe gesture.

Make sure the swipe gesture is turned on. To turn it on, go to settings. Then under “Advanced features” & select “Palm swipe to capture” & turn it on.

Choose the content you want to screenshot & gently swipe the side of your hand across the screen in right or left direction (whatever suits you).

The screen will flash hence showing the screenshot has been taken which will be saved in the gallery.

Not so difficult now, is it? These are the two most easiest ways to take screenshots on your Samsung Galaxy S8.

Let us know in the comments if these methods were of any help.

Samsung has changed the game with the new Samsung Galaxy S8, while Samsung has introduced many new security features. Apart from the new hi-tech Iris scanner & face recognition, what Samsung decided to not to change is the fingerprint scanner. Which is by far the most secure & fastest way to unlock your phone. It also allows you to pay payments as well as use the secure folder feature.

To set up the fingerprint lock on your device, follow these steps;

Go to the settings and select lock screen & security.

From lock screen security, select fingerprint scanner.

You’d be asked to enter a PIN, if you haven’t made one you’d be asked to make one now as a backup.

Place the finger you want the device to recognise on the designated area.

Lift & place your finger a couple times until you reach 100%

Now you can unlock your phone using your finger. You can either proceed by pressing done or can add up another fingerprint. You can add a maximum up to 4 fingerprints.

While this may not be the safest alternative to the iris recognition or the fingerprint or the passcode but this is surely the most interesting and quick way to unlock your phone.

If you have a Samsung galaxy S8 and you want to show off the new Face recognition feature to your friends, here’s how you can do so.

First of all open the settings and select the lock screen & security.

Then select Face recognition.

You’d be asked to enter PIN. In case if you haven’t set one, you’d be asked to set one now before proceeding onto face recognition.

Instructions would be displayed, read then and position your face using the front camera. Tap continue to proceed.

Position your face in the designated area & wait until the meter shows 100%

When the meter shows 100%, Face recognition has been set up and now you can simply unlock your phone by face recognition.

We all know that annoying feeling when you’re entering a website’s name and your browser automatically shows up irrelevant & stupid auto-fill suggestions that not in any case are helpful at all or when the incorrectly typed URL shows up. Although auto-suggestions can be very helpful most times but certain times it can be really annoying and stressing especially if you surf the browser a lot or keep your history saved for longer periods of time. But don’t worry, we’re here to help you out. So the next time you’re with your friends or someone else, showing them something on internet, we’ll make sure the horrible suggestions don’t show up and leave you embarrassed.

Here’s a guide on how to remove URL(s) from auto-suggestions in Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer.

Removing URL(s) from auto-suggestions in Chrome

If you use Google Chrome for your daily Internet requirements, here is how you can get rid of the URL(s),

Start typing the URL in the bar.

The auto-suggestion would automatically show up.

Select & highlight the entire URL.

Press “shift” & “del”.

Ta-da, it’s gone. It’s that easy.

Removing URL(s) from auto-suggestions in Firefox

If you prefer to stand out from the rest of the chrome using internet enthusiasts, you probably use Firefox. Well removing URL(s) is as easy as Chrome, as a matter of fact it’s the same,

Start typing the URL in the bar.

The auto suggestion would automatically show up.

Like in Chrome, select and highlight the URL you choose to delete.

Press “shift” & “delete”.

And like a magic trick, the URL(s) is gone.

Removing URL(s) from auto-suggestions in Internet explorer

Well if you live under a rock and have never probably heard of Chrome or Firefox. The Internet Explorer is your to-go browser. While we all have used Internet Explorer at some point in our lives, many people still do since it’s the default windows browser & who cares about the speed right?

Here is how you can get rid of the URL(s),

Type the URL in the bar.

Suggestions would automatically show up.

To delete a URL, instead of highlighting it, hoover your mouse over it and a small “x” would show appear on the right corner.

Click it and it’ll simply delete.

Let us know if the above guide helped you.

Imagine you’ve to get a document printed for a presentation; your boss calls you and tells you the meeting is due in an hour. You queue the print sequence and go on to take a bath and get ready. You come back after 10 minutes expecting the printed presentation to be out and ready, as soon as you check on the printer, there’s no printed document. So you check for what possibly could go wrong?

You’ve went over with the troubleshooting issue, the ink, the paper jams but nothing seems to work. Don’t worry, there’s probably something wrong with the print queue.

Here are a few tips to help you get past the trouble.

Restart the Print Spooler

Now this may seem like an old fashioned trick but it’s very handy. Most times it’s the issue with the print queue, by simply rebooting the print spooler; the software that manages printing can automatically solve the process. And since restarting doesn’t cancel any ongoing prints rather restarts the process only, this trick should be the first to come to mind when a problem like this arises.

All you have to do is cancel the service and clear the cache then restart again.

How to restart the Print Spooler Manually?

To restart the Printing process again, you’d have to manually shut down the Print spooler. To do this,

Click start and run the services app. (Write Services.msc in search if you can’t find it.)

Find “Print Spooler” and click it to display properties.

On seeing the properties window, click on general & click on stop at the bottom.

This will stop the print spooler.

Now open the file explorer and go navigate the address bar. Enter this text or copy paste it.

%windir%\System32\spool\PRINTERS

Once entered, you’ll be asked permission to open the folder. Authorize using the admin’s account.

Press Ctrl+A and then hit delete to empty the folder’s content.

Now again run the services app and open properties by clicking on the Print Spooler and then clicking general.

Click start to restart the Print Spooler and then exit by clicking on OK at the bottom bar.

As soon as you press OK, your documents would start printing right away in the same queue.

However if there’s still an issue with the printing, try this,

Attach a Batch File

Another way to get rid of the stuck print file without going through all the struggle mentioned above is to add a batch file.

Follow the following,

Open Notepad on your desktop.

Copy/paste the following

net stop spooler

del /Q /F /S “%windir%\System32\spool\PRINTERS\*.*”

net start spooler

Save your document.

Open the file menu and press “Save As” and choose the drive you want to save the file to.

Click on the “Save as Type” and name your file what you want to, however do include “.bat” for a better recall.

You can now use this file to clear the Print Spooler whenever you want by opening it.

Cancel a specific printing document and restart it.

Last but not the least, if you’re stuck with the same document, you can prioritize your documents by excluding the stuck document so that once the rest of the documents are printed, you can print the stuck one later or just cancel all the documents and put them on printing queue again. To do this, follow.

Click start, type devices and run it.

Click the “Devices and Printers”.

On the Window that shows up on clicking the “Devices and Printers”, choose your printer.

Right click on the printer tab and select “what’s printing” to view the printing queue.

The printing queue would display the documents to be printed and the documents that have been printed. Click the header “Submitted” so that the documents show up in the same order they were queued.

Right click the first document and either select “cancel” or “restart”. However we recommend that you restart the first document. If your printer starts printing then you’re good to go. Otherwise cancel all the documents and restart the process.

This should definitely help you with printing your documents, if still no success then something might be wrong with your printer or PC.

Let us know if the guide helped you or you have a better solution.

Whether it be a telemarketer, scammer, stranger or just someone you don’t want to talk to, it can be really inconvenient. But thanks to our smartphones, we can always block such contacts.

Here is a guide to block unwanted contacts.

Blocking contacts on Android (Version Marshmallow)

If your device runs the version Marshmallow or Nougat, you can block the unwanted callers using the following guide;

Open the phone app.

Go to recent calls list.

Locate the number you want to block or report as a spam.

And then block the number.

Blocking contacts on Android (version Lollipop)

For devices running a lollipop version, use the following guide.

Open the phone app.

Select call rejection and open auto rejection list.

Search for the number you want to block or type it in under the box.

Select the number and block it.

Blocking contacts on Samsung phones (mostly)

To block a contact, open the phone app from your home display. Open your call log or recent. Select a particular contact you want to block then tap more and the block settings would display allowing you to choose blocking incoming texts or phone calls from that specific number.

Or you can open the phone app, select more at the top corner & press settings. The call rejection would display and you’ll be able to manage the numbers you’ve blocked or numbers you want blocked.

Blocking contacts on HTC phones (mostly)

HTC features in-built call blocking, meaning you can block the contacts directly from your device instead of using third party apps. To block a contact, go to your call log and press and hold the contact you want to block, then press the “block caller” and the contact would be blocked. If you want to manage the contacts you’ve blocked previously, tap the menu icon in the top corner (three vertical dots) and select blocked contacts.

Blocking calls on LG phone

LG also incorporates a call-blocking option like Samsung and HTC which is both effective and easy to use. To block a contact, open the phone app, tap the three dot icon in the top corner, different options would display allowing you to review the blocked contacts or managing them. From there select the plus icon and type the number you want to block.

Ta-da, mission successful.

You can also block contacts on all three devices from the main settings by selecting and opening the Call settings and then choosing blocked contacts but blocking a contact from phone app is relatively easier.

The above guide should help you block unwanted callers but if you choose to deal with the issue in a more technical way, there are numerous apps on the PlayStore dedicated to blocking and getting rid of spammers and offenders,

Following are some of the best apps on the store.

Mr Number

This app serves a multi-functional task, it can operate as a regular app for texting and calling app and can also be used to block unwanted callers. You can choose the callers you never want to hear again from, ever and the app would do it right away.

Call Blocker

This is one of the most effective apps out there. It’s simple and easy to use. You can choose what type of block do you want to apply to a contact, from this app you can either block incoming texts from a specific contact but allow calls or block incoming calls but allow texts from a specific contact or just completely block the contact.

Many good blocking apps are available on the play store, you can check them out by searching “call block”, different apps with different features would show up and then you can choose the best you feel if you don’t like the ones mentioned above.

Not only it is difficult to fix but also requires a lot of effort to solve the issue. So if you’ve encountered this kind of iTunes error, you already know how difficult it is to solve it but don’t worry, we have a few solutions that’ll help you get rid of the iTunes error 3194.

What is iTunes error 3194?

The error shows up when you connect your iPhone/iPad to restore or update your device. If you’re using a jailbreak device, you’re more likely to be faced with the issue. Since the device is modified by third party, the iTunes fails to connect the device to Apple servers and instead connects it to Cydia servers.

How to fix the iTunes error 3194 on Mac/Windows.

Step 1. Close/Quit the iTunes on your Mac or Windows

Step 2. Search for the host files.
⁃ For Mac users: /etc/hosts

⁃ For Window users: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Step 3. Open the host files.

Step 4. Search for the entry “74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com” under the last line of host files.

Step 5. If the line is present then comment out the line by adding # before the 74.

Step 6. If the line is not present then edit and add the line “74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com”

Step 7. Save the changes to the host files and connect your device to iTunes.

Step 8. Once your iOS is updated, go back to the host files and remove the line “74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com” so that the iTunes can function as normal without popping up any future errors.

This should allow you to update or restore your device.

In case you’re trying to downgrade your phone which may not be possible depending on the version of the firmware you’ve downloaded.

For a normal restore, follow these steps;

Step 1. Connect your device to the iTunes and then power it off.

Step 2. Put your device into DFU mode by pressing and holding the power button for a solid ten seconds.

Step 3. Release the power button after 10 seconds but not the home button, continue holding it. iTunes will show a message telling you to restore your device.

These steps muse be performed if iTunes does not connect. The iTunes will tell you to restore your device so make sure you have backup in iCloud.

Disable antivirus or proxy shield.

If you don’t have any entry for the “gs.apple.com” under the host files then it’s most probably the antivirus software or VPN on your computer preventing the iTunes from connecting to Apple servers.

Unable to update or downgrade?

You might face the error “This device isn’t eligible for the requested build” in an attempt to update or downgrade your device using the firmware file Apple has unauthorized.

Try using a different PC

Last but not the least if none of the above solutions worked for you, try using a different PC with a different but better connection.
Let us know if the above tips helped you.

The “Touch ID” which was first incorporated in the iPhone 5s and then in newer models, is a great technology and offers improved security for Apple devices. Not only does it protect your device better but also makes the experience much more interesting. Needless to mention it saves a lot of time just laying down your finger on the sensor as compared to typing your password.

iPhone 5s was the first Apple device to hold the fingerprint unlock technology. However newer models (iPhone 6s and other devices released that year) were incorporated with a second generation Touch ID which helped better recognize your fingerprint.

However as much of a utility the “Touch ID” is; some users encounter problems with unlocking their devices using the fingerprint sensor.
If you’re one of those users curious to solve the daily struggle, here are a few hacks and solutions that might help you get through it,

Clean the greasy home button

Most of the time it’s the dirt or the greasy home button that prevents the touch sensor beneath the button to recognize your fingerprint and unlock. When you lay down your finger on the home button, the sensor beneath it pictures your finger print and reads it, if it’s similar to the one you’ve saved, it opens right up. While this is a simple process, the greasy home button makes it complicated, the sensor fails to read your fingerprint and you end up reading the “Try Again” notification.

Delete and save your fingerprint again

So you’ve cleaned up the home button and your hands are clean and dried but the Touch ID is still not working?
Why not try the “did you turn it off and on again” Trick.

Restoring your fingerprints is a simple hack that works like a charm, all you have to do is delete your current fingerprint(s) and save it again. This gets rid of the lag and the faulty recognition.

Update your iOS

If you’ve tried all the hacks mentioned above but you’re still at square one, don’t worry we’ve a solution for that too. Most of the time it’s the old software that causes the lag and delayed recognition, if you find your device delaying recognition right after a major update release (new iOS release) it’s more than likely the current software causing the problem. However monthly updates of the same version of iOS removes the bugs of the previous version and can greatly increase the chances of setting your sensor to default sensitivity.

Delayed recognition?

This is not a fault. This problem is usually faced by the users using devices with first generation Touch ID. While you’d expect an iPhone 6s to unlock faster than the iPhone 5s, competing them against each other would be unfair since the iPhone 6s is incorporated with a second generation Touch ID as compared to the first generation Touch ID incorporated in the 5s, so a margin of delay is fairly allowed. However if you have an iPhone 5s which delays the recognition beyond normal, a case of damaged Touched Sensor might be possible. For that, you have to;

Get your fingerprint sensor repaired

So you’ve performed all of the hacks above and the problem still persists? Then you have a damaged Touch ID sensor. Reasons causing that are;

Dropping your device roughly.

Broken home button.

Liquid invasion.

Repair by an unprofessional tech.

Open or refurbished device

Since dropping your device might not always break the fingerprint sensor, the rest of the factors can seriously affect your phone. If you’ve bought your device from an Apple certified retailer, You can have it checked and repaired by them for free if it’s still in warranty.

If you’ve bought a used phone, the factors (2), (4) & (5) are more likely to cause the problem. To solve the issue, you can get your device repaired by a professional tech who knows about Apple devices since Apple does not repair devices that have been already repaired by 3rd party techs. We although recommend you to always buy your device and get a repair from certified Apple retailers but in case of a refurbish or an already-repaired device, finding a professional technician can solve your problem too.

Comment below if any of the hacks worked for you or you have any suggestions.
