The recent studies have shown that notifications can ruin the concentration of human beings. Nature of notifications, even if it is a small beep or the tone, just does not matter, but it creates a disruptive performance. The behavior is not restricted to the smart-phone users but is found in all mobile/tablet users. So here is the guide on how to disable notifications from any app in Android phones.

Blocking the notifications

The blocking of notifications depends on the version of Android you have on your Smartphone. There are two ways of turning off notifications from any application.

Android 5 or higher

If your phone is having Android 5 or up then it is very easy to change the settings.

• Just go to “Settings” and find a tab “Sound and Notification” and then click on app notifications. The sequence will be as follows
• Settings > Sound and Notification > App notifications
• You will see all apps installed or downloaded on your phone. Tap the application which you need to stop. Click on the Block and the application will never show the notifications.

Android 4.1 or 4.4

If you do not have lollipop Android, then you can still stop getting the notifications but process is a little different. If you are using the Android 4.1 or 4.4 (Jelly Bean or KitKat) then follow the method to block the notifications.

• Go to the Settings then click the Apps tab.
• A list of applications will appear. Just click on the application from which you do not want to receive the notifications.
• Uncheck the “Show notifications” box.

Android 4.0 or older

If you are using an old Android smart phone with sandwich OS or haven’t updated your phone OS, then there is no specific way to disable notifications. Upgrading the OS of your phone is wise. However, you can still block notifications. When you receive the notification from an app, just long press the notification. An “i” will appear. Just tap on that “i.” By tapping, it will take you to the settings. Just, uncheck the show notifications option.

For Google and Sony Devices

1. Go to the settings menu on your phone.
2. Click on “Apps” under “Device” section of the settings.
3. Scroll and find the app for which you want to turn off notifications.
4. After clicking on that specific app for which you want to disable notifications an “App info” screen will appear.
5. Uncheck the “Show notifications” box on the App info screen.
6. A dialog box will appear to confirm that you want to turn off notifications. Clicking on OK will disable notifications for that App.

For Samsung Devices

1. Open settings menu on your Samsung device.
2. Under “Device” section, select “Applications” and then select “Application manager”.
3. Click on the app for which you want to disable notifications.
4. In the “App info” screen that appears, uncheck the “Show notifications” box.
5. A diaglog box will appear confirming that you want to turn off notifications. Clicking on OK will turn off notifications for that App.

The above method will disable notification for only one app. If you have to disable notifications for more apps then simply repeat the process for each app.

Step 1:
Open the settings menu from your Home Screen and look for “Tethering and portable hostspot”. It is usually located in Wireless & Networks section in the settings. On some phones you may need to tap “More…” to find it.(Like in screenshot show below)
Settings will look something like the one show below. Tap on more.

Step 2:
Now tap on “Tethering & portabe hostspot”

Step 3:
Check the box next to “Portable Wi-Fi hostspot”

Step 4:
Now edit your Wi-Fi network name and password by tapping on “Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings”. Tap on save after making changes.

Step 5:
Now go to your PC or laptop and select your handset’s network from the available Wi-Fi connections. Click on connect and type the network security key. This is the same Wi-Fi password we set earlier in hotspot settings.

Its all done. Your are now connected with your handset and can use internet on your PC.

Wi-Fi hotspot Using Third Party Apps

If tethering is not allowed by your carrier or you can’t find “Tethering & portable hotspot” option in settings then you can use a third party app for this purpose. Look for WiFi tethering apps on google play store and install one of the apps to enable tethering.
Some carriers may block apps for WiFi tethering from their version of play store. If you are one of them then you need to download the APK file using your mobile’s browser and install it manually.

Data usage
